As mentioned in my overview blog about #innotakeoff, there were 3 tracks in the competition: Students, Startups and SAP Employees. In this blog I’d like to give an overview of each of the projects from the Startups teams.  Startups found it useful because they got in touch with potential customers and partners at the C-level and also got some feedback from the business experts.

There were 3 groups in this track, with the following projects:

1. Bloom: Businesses do not adequately capture the data related to goal completion and employee accomplishments. And even if data is collected, it is mismanaged and not well optimized. The idea behind this project was to provide a solution for professionals who are dissatisfied with annual performance reviews as a way to track their careers and managers who struggle to understand the state of their organization. Bloom is the cloud-based performance management solution that moves organizations from annual performance cycles to predictable delivery based appraisals with the swipe of a finger. This app consistently tracks the steps taken to complete the goals, highlights the business areas that need attention, and provides managers transparent interface with which they can they can take some future steps and provide feedback to employees.

2. Preventive Farming: Conventional farming treats farming with brute-force attack. The use of more and more fertilizers and pesticides to attack different issues creates a negative feedback look to the soil and plants. And farmers end up paying more costs with increasing use of these pesticides. This preventive farming solution is for farmers and people who are dissatisfied with conventional farming. It is based on the use of imaging by drones and expert system to provide early alerts to the growers to symptoms of diseases and sub-optimal growth. SAP will be the backbone for all the imaging and will be able to analyze the data and provide early alerts to the farmers, limiting excessive use of fertilizers and pesticides. Thus this will eventually reduce the costs, crop loss and will increase sustainability in farming category.

3. Disaster Visual Helpline: If there is any disaster such as earthquake or flood and if your loved ones are stuck in the disaster zone, you will understandably be worried about their whereabouts. This solution allows various sources to upload data and information about the situation from various locations using IoT. And then the app will send messages to the public on the internet. People on the other side can upload the pictures of other people or location details  and people can search the database with pictures to understand the situation and look for the information about their friends and family stuck in that area.

Out of these 3 startups, Bloom was selected as a winner. Sam Yen, Managing Director of Silicon Valley, presented them an award of $10,000 check. Also, they get the chance to develop their idea further as a member of the SAP HANA startup focus program.

Thus overall it was a great experience for startups as well as coaches and all the audience as they got to see some upcoming innovative ideas from these startups. And some of these ideas will definitely come up as live projects in future.
