Hi,
I'm just discussing different usage scenarios for HANA Cloud Platform with a colleague. We like the features that the platform provides like platform services (feedback, communication, ...), automatic git repository provisioning for HTML5 applications, destinations and routing via the dispatcher to bypass the same origin policy problem, ...
So we think that a company could use the HANA Cloud Platform perfectly for providing all SAPUI5 based frontend applications. We also think that it will still take a while until customers use cloud servers for saving of their critical data.
So our suggested usage scenario is to provide the frontend applications via the HANA Cloud Platform and connect REST services of the onPremise backend systems via the destinations of the Cloud Platform. In this case the Cloud platform would only provide the SAPUI5 Javascript application, act as a proxy to the backend systems and would additionally provide the different cloud services. This would help companies that I´ve worked for in the last years a lot.
For this use case the currently minimum HANA Cloud Platform with 128 GB RAM that is available via SAP HANA Marketplace for app. $ 5800,- / month is much much oversized and to expensive in comparision to the benefit to onPremise solutions with other servers (e.g. Tomcat).
Did you guys from SAP think of such an usage scenario? Would be great if you offer a lightweight HANA Cloud Platform edition with e.g. 2-5 GB RAM and therefore less money in the future.
Best regards
Helmut
