As we constantly get questions around what you can do with the free developer account on the SAP HANA Cloud Platform I've put together this document with the help of my colleagues from the SAP HANA Cloud Platform team. If something changes I'll keep this document up-to-date so that it reflects the most current state of what you can do with a free developer account.

A free developer account on the SAP HANA Cloud Platform is provided to you with a free and perpetual developer license which you accept when you create your free developer account. You can use such an account to try and test out the platform.

Compared to a productive (paid) account there are a few differences that are outlined in the following table:

Aspect

Comment

Price and license

Free and perpetual account under a developer license

You get the account for free and the account doesn't expire.

The developer license allows you to use the SAP HANA Cloud Platform for non-productive usage.

The pricing for the SAP HANA Cloud Platform is available at http://marketplace.saphana.com/hcp

Available services

Productive and beta services

With your developer account you have access to most of the productive services. But you also get early access to beta functionality, which isn't available for productive accounts.

The account doesn’t offer any service level agreement with regards to the availability of the platform.

Account members

Only one member per account

You can't add any additional members to your account

SAP HANA development

1GB on shared HANA instance

With your account you also get a HANA instance for free. Compared to a productive instance on the SAP HANA Cloud Platform there are a few differences

  • You get 1GB of storage for your structured data
  • You get a shared HANA instance. This means that your HANA instance is running on the same hardware like HANA instances from other trial accounts from other users. Nevertheless your data and applications are not accessible to others unless you open them up
  • You can create one SAP HANA instance on your trial account
  • You can create column views using both HANA Studio and SQL commands via JDBC.

Document Service

1GB for unstructured data

You can store up to 1GB of unstructured data in a maximum of 3 repositories. Repositories can be deleted or recreated with the Console Client.

Connectivity Service

Capped number of configured on-premise systems

The SAP HANA Cloud Connector that you connect to your free developer account

  • allows the usage of two configured on-premise systems
  • is only supported for Java applications, HANA XS is not supported for a trial account

Java development

One app can be up-and-running

You can deploy as many Java applications on your account as you want. On your account you can have one application in status "Started".

HTML5 development

100MB of total space for all your Git repositories

You can create as many HTML5 apps as you want on your account. There is a cap after 100MB of data on all your Git repositories on the SAP HANA Cloud Platform
