Offerings for non-productive usage

The Free Developer Account

Once you've decided to get started with SAP HANA Cloud Platform you can start with the free developer account. The free developer account provides you already with most of the functionality of the SAP HANA Cloud Platform and you can use it under a perpetual developer license for non-productive use.

The SAP HANA Cloud Platform Starter Edition

Once you get some more know-how and you are thinking of moving to a productive setup, the SAP HANA Cloud Platform Starter Edition might be the best choice for you. The Starter Edition is also limited to non-productive usage.

Compared to the free developer account you are not limited to a 1GB shared SAP HANA instance, but you get your own SAP HANA machine with 32GB or 64GB of memory.

SAP HANA Infrastructure Services

The SAP HANA Infrastructure Services package allows customers who have existing SAP HANA licenses to deploy SAP HANA without capital investments or hardware setup. There are several memory sizes available for the SAP HANA instance.

SAP HANA DB Services

The SAP HANA DB Services package offers customers immediate access to SAP HANA with payment on monthly basis. No upfront purchasing activities or hardware setup is needed. This offering is provided in two editions called "Base Edition" and "Platform Edition" and you can also choose from several memory sizes for your own SAP HANA instance in the cloud.

SAP HANA App Services

With the SAP HANA App Services package you can build and deploy the real-time applications required to succeed in today’s always-on, mobile, social and data-driven world. This package provides you with the complete functionality of the SAP HANA Cloud Platform and you can also customize the package to your needs.

SAP PartnerEdge Program for Application Development

If you want to become an SAP partner to build cloud applications with the SAP HANA Cloud Platform the SAP PartnerEdge Program for Application Development is your best choice. The program provides you with lots of offerings like access to broad range of tools to enable your company and developers, to manage your partnership and to grow your business. You get marketing and sales support: SAP partner logo, listing on SAP Store and Application Development Partner directory. And much, much more.

Frequently asked questions

In this section I'd like to address questions that we hear quite often from customers and partner.

Can I connect my SAP HANA instance on AWS to my free developer account on SAP HANA Cloud Platform?

No, you can't. An SAP HANA instance on AWS or any other partner cloud offering provides you with remote access to a dedicated standalone SAP HANA instance. This instance is managed and maintained by yourself and can't be put under control of your free developer account on the SAP HANA Cloud Platform.

At which point does my free developer account on SAP HANA Cloud Platform become not-free?

At no point. There are limits defined for your free developer account. If you reach those limits you can't go any further. E.g. if you've used up all your free space on your HANA instance you can't add any more data to it.

What's the cheapest offering if I only want to do HANA native development on a bigger SAP HANA instance for non productive usage?

If you want to go deeper and expand your development know-how only on SAP HANA you can use the SAP HANA Developer Edition available on Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure. Please note the SAP HANA Developer Edition does not include any application services you might have used from the SAP HANA Cloud Platform. The license for the SAP HANA Developer Edition is also free, hosting costs apply depending the instance size and hosting partner costs. The Developer Edition is also limited to non-productive usage. Can I use a free developer account and a productive account at the same time?

Yes, you can

How can I transport my data and code from an SAP HANA instance on SAP HANA Cloud Platform to another SAP HANA instance?

This tasks is accomplised in the same way like on any other SAP HANA instance. Please check chapter 12.4 and 12.6 of the SAP HANA Developer Guide on how to accomplish this task.
